This is just a band who straight up deserves more attention than they get. Still considered an indie band, they put out some great new age rock singles. Great mix between a slow and fast beat mid song.
New mixtape out, this one, by the Taylor Gang member, Chevy Woods. Rollin with Mac Miller, Chevy has gained some recognition from songs such as "Paper Route" and Wiz Khalifa's track "Homicide". Red Cup Music is Chevy's first offering to hip-hop and the track that stands out on this one is definitely "Jimmy Fallon". I'm a tad biased because I heard the song live in concert, but it's still a definite party jam. Player and Download link below:
New music from the DNC. This track is a super catchy electro-hop jam that i've had on repeat for a couple of days now. The DNC has a similar feel to that of Tinie Tempah, except that his style is a tad more electronic rather than focused on the hip-hop. However, Miss Amani's contrast in tone against the DNC where it seems as if the two are talking to one another, makes the song more enjoyable for me. Player and Download below:
Ok, so this song is rather old, but in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, I thought it deserves a post. Macklemore dives straight into his Irish heritage with this feel good jam. This song makes you want to raise your glass, sing along and continue to drink. Player and Download below:
New music from Mike Stud, the former Duke baseball player and current Georgetown graduate student, and Loggy, the former UC-Berkley wide receiver. Honestly, this track blows any other Mike Stud material i've heard out of the water, and kind of changes my opinion about him as an artist. Loggy's verse also adds more strength to the song, and the chorus is undeniably catchy. Player and Download below: In This Life (feat. Loggy)- Mike Stud
New song from It's the Dean's List and this one continues to show their strength in production and their strength lyrically. Dani Ummel also does her thing on this track. So what if The Drive In just came out, it's not like i'll turn down music from ITDL. No download, only streaming for now. Caveman - The Dean's List feat Dani Ummel
This song is somewhat old, but after just being introduced to Tyler the Creator, and the rest of OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All), this was a must post, along with the video. These guys are known for their unusual antics and are known for a genre called "horrorcore". Their act has gotten them gigs on MTV and with Jimmy Fallon. This track, "Yonkers" is on Tyler's upcoming mixtape, Goblin. Tyler and the rest of the gang have their own unique way of doing things, which helps them stand out against the rest of the artists out there. Cannot wait to see what these guys do next. LOVED the original version of this single from Kanye and others. The remix is just as good. Kanye just knows his stuff, and can always get together a star studded cast.
Single from Lupe Fiasco that didn't make Lasers. Apparently, he's been performing this song on his Lasers tour, so the thought was that this would be on the album. However, this track didn't make the cut, which is rather unfortunate. But the beat on this song is so good, and Lupe does his usual MC Mastery. But this blog is a little bit biased, we do love Lupe. Newest installment from Kam Royal. After hitting 300 twitter followers, he decided to release his third lyrical exercise for all his fans to hear. I have to say, with each one that he puts out. you can see the continual growth of his flow and lyrical wisdom on each track. Especially on this one, where he speeds and slows the flow with ease.
If you haven't followed Kam Royal on twitter already, do so @KAMRoyal
This is a day late, but here's the new Mac Miller mixtape, Best Day Ever. I've given it a listen through and i'd have to say, it's not as good as his first mixtape K.I.D.S. which hit 100,000 downloads, but this tape is still a must download. Mac Miller keeps a very mellow and chill tone on most of these tracks and lets his wordplay do the trick. I would say that my favorite songs on the tape after one go-through are "All Around the World" and "Snooze". You can download the tape from the link below and add to the over 60,000+ that have already downloaded the tape. Also, the player below has all the tracks on the tape for you to preview.
New song from Mac Miller produced by Ritz Reynolds. Imma keep this post short, because his mixtape Best Day Ever is due out on Friday, and i'll give more commentary. For now, enjoy this laidback track.
Childish Gambino is putting out more than the sluttiest girl in your grade. He's been leaking music on what it seems like every week, and it continues to be really good. His new installment, his EP, features the song "Freaks and Geeks" which was posted on this site a while back. Cannot wait to keep hearing from this comedic/lyrical genius.
This dynamic duo was featured a couple weeks ago for their single "Black Forest Gummie Worms". That track, which didn't make it to the mixtape, fails in comparison to the project that this mixtape is a whole. This is a must download for all people who just want a chill mixtape to listen to. You can download the mixtape from their website, with the link below:
Came across this mash-up today, and had to post it. The track throws together King Fantastic's "Why? Where? What?" and Rusko's house hit "Hold On". Both tracks are great independently, but when you throw them together, it's an interesting fusion of gangster rap and an electro jam. I think this is a really solid 1v1 mash-up and have it on repeat as of right now. Player and download below:
I remember growing up I had a huge crush on Spears, until her career took a U-Turn in the wrong direction. Now in her comeback stage, her music has her on the up-and-up once again. Her first single, "Hold It Against Me" was a success, even integrating some background dubstep into the track. Britney's new single, "Til the World Ends" has more of a dancehall feel to it, but is still catchy. It reminds me of her tracks, "Kill the Lights" and "Circus" from her 2008 album of the same name. Britney has caught onto the idea that electronic-based tracks are slowly becoming increasingly popular in today's mainstream, and she's running with it. Her new album, Femme Fatale, is due out March 29th, and even though I don't want to admit it, i'm excited to go and get it.
The sample on this track is absolutely great, and OnCue does his usual job of mixing his lyrics with somewhat of a passionate and "Singing-like" tone, which I really enjoy in his music. This track shows his continued growth as an artist, and as stated before, the sampling used by the producer, CJ Luzi, is very good. Player and download below:
Another Snoop Dogg post, another hot song. This one, features the apprentice of autotune, Teddy Pain himself. "Boom" is a Scott Storch produced track that will be featured on Snoop's up-and-coming album Doggumentary, which is due out March 29th. This is not one of the headliners of the album, but has a traditional catchy T-Pain chorus, and Snoop delivers his cool gangster flow over the beat, making this a song worth listening to. Just the latest track on Wiz Khalifa's road to being a bonafide star. The leader of the current young internet rappers pairs up with a huge legend and close friend Snoop. This song is going to be on the soundtrack for their upcoming movie High School.
Make way for a new name in the electro-house scene. This kid, Porter Robinson, is only 18 years old, and coming out of North Carolina, is making some noise, literally. What's really surprising is that his style seems so developed because the sound his tracks deliver are very unique. His track "Say My Name" is already a huge hit, and he has many other successful tracks, a few of which are below. He layers so many different sounds on top of one another, yet they all come together to make a great track in the end. Here are some of my favorite tracks of his, and the song I mentioned before, "Say My Name":
Timeflies dropped their most recent track, "The Chase" a couple of days ago, and having not heard it until now, I would've posted it earlier. This track is a variation from what i'm used to from the hip-hop duo. It's a slower paced song, and has hints of dubstep throughout the whole track. Not very, heavy hitting dub, more just chill background noise to serve to the verses and the "singing" almost. Timeflies is another group to look out for and they're performing with Kinetics & One Love in NYC tomorrow. Exciting! Player and Download below:
Childish Gambino continues to impress with each track that he leaks out. This one I had never heard before, but apparently he dropped it right on New Years. He's already got me sold on the idea that he can rap. Going over what sounds like Wiz Khalifa's "Real Estate". He once again tears up the beat. Player and Download Below:
Normally I could give two shits about the soundtracks for a show im watching. But during last weeks episode of Jersey Shore(yes I watch Jersey Shore) this song came on and I was feeling it. This band is relatively unheard of, and newly formed in 2008.
